University men’s team unbeaten this season.

The University of Lincoln Men’s First XI football team has completed the perfect season going all 10 games unbeaten and finishing 12 points clear at the top of their league.

This is the first season in which players in the Men’s First XI have benefitted from a unique coaching agreement with Lincoln City Football Club and it has secured promotion in style.

Captain Tom Coupe believes that partnership has been instrumental in this season’s success: “It’s a great achievement for us to go unbeaten this season. At the start of the season the goal was to win the league which we secured with two games left to play, but to go unbeaten was an amazing bonus.

“A lot of the credit has to go to Lincoln City and our partnership with them, having a top-quality coach every week, an analysis team and physios definitely helped us this season in all aspects.”

Since the start of the 2024/25 season, the University’s Men’s and Women’s First XIs have been selected, managed and trained by expert personnel from Lincoln City. From trials to pre-season training to post-match analysis, the Imps’ academy specialists now support the student footballers with every element of their campaign in a new performance coaching programme.

Men’s First XI Team Coach, Isaac Rice from Lincoln City FC said: “The team have had an excellent league campaign.  Going unbeaten is something everyone should be proud of, and the players deserve all the plaudits.

“All the players have taken advantage of all that the programme offers; from on pitch training sessions, to all the off-pitch support such as video analysis, medical and sports science support.

“After a successful league campaign, the hard work continues as we look forward to the upcoming Varsity and Cathedral Cup fixtures.”

Hannah Clarke, Student Communities Officer added: “It's been great this year watching our Men’s First Team go from strength to strength with Lincoln City, and for them to not only win the league, but to win it unbeaten is a testament to their hard work.

“We're incredibly proud of the team's efforts, and excited to see how they continue to grow under our partnership with Lincoln City Football Club.”
