Stuff to Borrow scheme calls for volunteers
A new initiative is allowing residents to hire tools, gardening supplies and other specialist equipment for a small fee, while promoting a repair and reuse ethos which is kinder to the planet.
Stuff to Borrow is a lending library set up by EarthLincs with the support of Shared Prosperity Funding awarded by Lincoln City Council. The project’s aim is to enable development and build a community of skill-sharing.
“We hope Stuff to Borrow will be up and running so we can have the official opening during Great Big Green Week in June,” said Rosemary Robinson, EarthLincs volunteer.
“In the meantime, we are very busy purchasing items to run the library, determining opening hours and hire fees, compiling a list of items to stock and preparing promotional materials.”
Volunteers are needed and EarthLincs is encouraging people to share their practical knowledge to help shape the lending library. This includes offering expertise to support those wanting to learn a new skill, to helping maintain and repair any of the equipment available.
Items such as power tools, sewing machines and carpet cleaners will be provided by the tool library to borrow, reducing the need for individuals to buy expensive equipment and storing things only occasionally used.
“We welcome anyone interested in finding out more about Stuff to Borrow or who would be interested in helping run the library. We are also appealing for donations of your unused tools and other equipment.”

Stuff to Borrow will operate from Mint Lane Wellbeing Hub and will be the first of its kind in the city. The official launch date is still to be confirmed, but updates can be found at www.earthlincs.co.uk and on social media
