New members wanted for ultimate club
Want to try a new fast-paced sport that combined elements of netball, American football and other team pursuits?
A group of frisbee enthusiasts has brought Ultimate to Lincoln and are looking for new members to join with a view to competing in tournaments this summer.
“Beginners pick up the basics without delay and continue to learn and progress quickly. At the top end, ultimate players are explosive athletes who train regularly and engage in sprinting, twisting, turning, jumping, diving and catching with speed and agility,” explained Ed Noon, who previously played Ultimate ay university.
The sport is played on a rectangular pitch with an endzone at each end. To score, simply catch the disc in the opponent’s end zone. Like netball, players may pivot when holding the disc but cannot run with it. If the disc is dropped, intercepted or thrown out of bounds, possession turns over to the other team.
Ed wanted to fill the Ultimate void in Lincolnshire outside of the university club. Lincoln Ultimate was established in November 2024 and now meets twice weekly to train. On Sundays, you can find them in The Arboretum on Monk’s Road from 11am to 12 noon and on Tuesdays they train indoors at the Dean’s Leisure Centre at Lincoln College from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.
“Ultimate is a self-officiated sport underpinned by a philosophy known as Spirit of the Game: therefore, ultimate is a friendly, inclusive sport which welcomes newcomers with enthusiasm.
“Lincoln Ultimate is a mixed club for all ages and experience levels, so why not go out of your comfort zone and give it a try? It’s a great way to meet new people, stay fit and engage in healthy competition with yourself and others.”
