Lincoln City v Reading - preview

A bumper crowd will be hoping to see the Imps return to winning ways as they take on Reading at the LNER Stadium tomorrow (Saturday, December 21 – kick-off 12.30pm).

Kids for a Quid scheme, which allows all fans under 18 entry for just £1, returns for City’s final game before Christmas and demand has seen the Stacey West stand opened for the fixture.

A win for City would rekindle their early season momentum to take them in to the second half of the season and put them on level points with the Royals – the sides sit in ninth and sixth position respectively in the League One table.

Several of the teams above Lincoln have games in hand so it’s important for Michael Skubala’s side to record the win to keep them in contention for a play-off position.

His side will take heart from recording draws against Charlton Athletic and Huddersfield Town on their last two outings and their opponents on Saturday are getting used to playing under a manager only appointed earlier this month.

Noel Hunt took over from Ruben Selles after the latter’s move to Hull City on December 6 and is not an unknown quantity as he was previously the Under 21s coach. Hunt is looking for his first win as boss, but his side are feeling the strain of injuries in the squad.

According to the Reading Chronicle 900 away fans are making the trip to Lincoln for the early kick-off.

Fun fact – Reading’s nickname is the Royals because of the club’s location in Berkshire, which is known as Royal County. They were previously known as the Biscuitmen due to the town’s association with the Huntley and Palmer factory, but the nickname was changed in 1976.
