Lincoln City honour computing pioneer George Boole with new kit design
Lincoln City have unveiled their 2025/26 home kit - and it’s more than just a shirt. The design celebrates Lincoln-born mathematician George Boole, whose 19th-century work laid the foundations for modern computing.
The new kit features a return to classic red and white stripes, with a black collar and trim. Woven into the central white stripes is a line of binary code spelling out “We Are Imps” - a tribute to Boole’s revolutionary Boolean logic, which underpins all digital technology today.
Born on Silver Street in 1815, Boole was largely self-taught and opened his own school in Lincoln by age 20. His groundbreaking book The Laws of Thought, published in 1854, introduced Boolean algebra – a system that translates logical statements into binary values (true/false, 1/0). Though Boole died in 1864, his work gained widespread recognition nearly a century later when American engineer Claude Shannon applied it to digital circuits.
City’s kit also includes sponsor logos from Branston, Easy Heat Pumps, and new back-of-shirt sponsor Solgari. The design features fully red sleeves with black-trimmed cuffs and the embroidered Imps badge.
Boole’s legacy is visible across Lincoln – from a plaque at Pottergate to a memorial window in the cathedral and a statue outside the railway station. Now, his contribution is stitched into City’s identity.
Fans can purchase the shirt now and wear a piece of Lincoln’s technological heritage with pride.
