Imps take on high-flying Wycombe
Top of the table Wycombe Wanderers travel to the LNER Stadium hoping to retain their League 1 leader status tomorrow (Saturday, November 23).
Their heads will be up after winning their last six games, but in the Imps the Chairboys will find a side looking to spoil their party coming off their own unbeaten run of six matches and in the final play-off position.
The fans’ expectations are high with both teams having legitimate claims to a portion of bragging rights. Wycombe have earned an impressive 32 points from a possible 36 across their last 12 league games and have more away games than any other team in the league.
However, they have failed to beat City in the last four visits and have won just one in the last eight trips to the LNER. The last time the teams met was in January at Adams Park when the score was 1-1, but in this fixture last season Lincoln were 3-0 victors.
Head coach Michael Skubala has drilled his side not to underestimate any team - this will be particularly true against Wycombe and the home side will want to take advantage of set pieces that have proved so effective in recent games.
The recent cold snap should not affect the pitch at the LNER, but as the weather turns unseasonally warm there is a high chance of a rainy encounter.
Fun Fact – Wycombe Wanderers was formed in 1887 by a group of young furniture trade workers leading to the club’s nickname – The Chairboys.
In other city news - David Bridges has left his role as assistant head coach with the imps to explore other opportunities within football.
Bridges returned to the club this summer after a spell with the Professional Footballers Association having previously been head of coaching at City's Academy.
