Imps looking to regain play-off momentum

A clash against bottom side Cambridge United this Saturday should be Lincoln City’s chance to move up the League One table and back towards the play-off zone (kick-off 3pm).

The side is currently just five points off sixth place and Cambridge need to go for the win as a draw is unlikey to lift them off the bottom spot and there are eight points between them and safety.

But the Imps won’t be taking any chances against Gary Monk’s side as it has proved it can have a sting in its tail in recent weeks with a win against Mansfield Town and good draws against both Wanderers, Wycombe and Bolton.

City’s assistant head coach Tom Shaw acknowledged the visitors to the LNER Stadium had a bad away record with just one win this season but pointed to United’s recent successful modus operandi of springing counterattacks on teams.

“They’re a very gritty, organised football team with a very good counterattack. We have got be really careful.”

Injuries may leave the door open for Sam Clucas to make his first start since returning to the club and Shaw confirmed he was in contention after achieving match fitness.

“He has got to get the shirt off some really good players.”

Freddie Draper, who has extended his contact at Lincoln, was one of the scorers in the 2-0 victory in the reverse fixture at the beginning of the season and fans will remember this clash from last season’s campaign when Lincoln were 6-0 winner.
