Huddersfield Town 2, Lincoln City 2
City picked up a point on the road at the John Smith's Stadium against play-off chasing Huddersfield Town.
More than 1,300 fans made the trip to back the Imps and saw their side give a strong performance in the first half but a shakier second spell resulted in The Terriers coming back for the draw.
Bailey Cadamarteri had the first effort of the half after Tendayi Darikwa pulled the ball back following a cross-field pass from Conor McGrandles but the striker fired his effort just wide of the far post.
George Wickens was forced into a stop in the opening exchanges after a powerful effort from Ollie Turton.
Ben House gave City the lead after 15 minutes following a dangerous ball in from Darikwa on the right-hand side and extended their advantage in the 25th minute following some excellent football that eventually found the back of the net after Cadamarteri’s effort was turned in by Terriers’ defender Nigel Long.
Huddersfield pulled one back in the opening five minutes of the second half through a Brodie Spencer header and it looked like City would take all three points home, but Huddersfield levelled in the 88th minute thanks to Callum Marshall.
Head coach Michael Skubala said: “Everyone will have seen that in the first half we were electric and the lads were fantastic.
“The second half was tough and there’s disappointment at having not won, but we’ll look back and think it’s a good point against a team who are flying high.
“I’m gutted for the lads as they were desperate for three points, but when we look back at coming here and dominating a promotion favourite as we did in the first half there’s a lot to build on and it’ll be a good point.”
He pointed to fine margins as being key in turning points into wins and feels there are real building blocks ahead of a busy festive period.
“We were excellent for 45 minutes and could have scored again to make it 3-0, but we need to have that for longer. The two young lads up front were brilliant and if we can put that together for 65 or 70 minutes then we’d probably have done enough to win the game.”
