Council engages with the public at Heckington Show

Visitors flocked to England’s largest village show over last weekend.

Heckington Show was in its 157th incarnation of entertaining the public with a mix of heritage, horticulture, vintage machinery and animals as well as a concert marquee with live music.

Representatives from North Kesteven District Council used the opportunity to highlight its initiatives and services and was named as runner-up for Best Trade stand at the show.

As part of Lincolnshire Waste Partnership, the authority engaged with residents from across the district and county about next spring’s new food waste collection service, as well as raising awareness about changing climate, Local Government Reorganisation, and new ways to recycle and repurpose household items and old paint.

Council Leader Cllr Richard Wright (pictured below) said: “It’s an absolutely fantastic show and of course I was really proud to be there supporting it.

“Heckington is in North Kesteven so it’s a really big thing for us to make sure we’re showing support for the show, for Heckington and for the district.

“To be able to say we’ve got the biggest village show in the country here in the district, and that it’s been going for 157 years, is a real honour.

“Hats off to the organisers, to all the volunteers, to everybody that makes the show happen. It’s absolutely brilliant and it’s testament to how the communities can work together.”
