College celebrates students’ achievements

The traditional A Level day celebration event at Lincoln College this year marked an achievement rate that was 10.1 % above the national average.

A Level students had an overall pass rate of 97.3% and the majority of the college’s T Level students also achieved high grades.

Each year the event celebrates the success of all Level 3 learners - Technical Training, A Levels and T Levels with a party atmosphere and each student receiving gifts in recognition for their efforts.

Vice Principal Julie Sullivan said: "It's been amazing to see so many happy faces today as the culmination of hard work comes to an end and students, no matter what their future plans, can breathe a sigh of relief now the results are here. Well done to everyone collecting results today, you should be very proud.”

Freeman Edwards (pictured above with his dad), who achieved four A*s in his A Levels, said: "I didn’t really want to go to university in my first year, but in second year I came across a Maths problem that really intrigued me and it completely changed my mind.

“Now I’ve got four A* A Levels in Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics, and I’ll be starting a Mathematics degree at the University of Oxford this October.

“I didn’t enjoy secondary school much, though I did get a grade 8 in Maths, but I’ve loved studying here at Lincoln College - it’s so much more personal. You’re on a first-name basis with teachers, treated like an adult, and it’s a more relaxed environment.

“I came here instead of staying at my secondary school's sixth form, and it was the right choice. Maxine, my college Maths teacher, who also went to Oxford, was a huge help with my reference and personal statement, and my tutors Adam, Christine, and Richard have all been brilliant too.

“In the future, I want to maybe become a professor or go into research Maths - I just want to keep stretching myself!"

Anyone who has not secured a university place can still apply to study a Career Degree at Lincoln College University Centre.

Students who have completed their Level 3 qualifications with Lincoln College, Newark College and ASI can benefit from a £1,000 cashback incentive if they progress directly to study a degree-level course at Lincoln College University Centre.
