Popular Lincoln craft beer bar BeerHeadZ closes after seven years

A much-loved independent pub in Lincoln has closed its doors for the final time after seven years of serving up craft beers and cask ales to the city’s drinkers.

BeerHeadZ, located in Eastgate, announced its permanent closure in a social media post earlier this week. The decision, the owners say, comes after rising overhead costs and financial pressures linked to the closure of other venues in the group.

Known for its ever-changing selection of real ales, craft brews on tap, and a fridge full of bottles and cans from cutting-edge breweries, BeerHeadZ built a loyal following since opening in 2018. It was part of a new generation of "Indiepubs" focusing on quality beer and an inclusive, community vibe.

“This is the post we never wanted to have to write,” the team said in a Facebook statement. “Unfortunately, due to recent overhead cost increases, alongside high costs incurred over the last two years from closing other outlets in the group, we are having to close the doors for good at BeerHeadZ Lincoln.”

The pub’s final day of trading was Wednesday, June 4th, marked with a farewell open mic night and an invitation to regulars to “help drink us dry.”

Staff thanked customers for their unwavering support, particularly through the challenges of the COVID pandemic.

“It has been our privilege for the last seven years to serve you all,” the post continued. “We are proud of the community of loyal customers that we have gained over this time. Throughout the challenges of COVID and everything that has followed, you stuck by us – and we will be forever grateful.”

The closure of BeerHeadZ adds to the growing list of independent hospitality venues across the UK facing pressure from rising costs, including energy bills, rent, and supply chain issues.

Fans of the Lincoln bar have shared messages of thanks and fond memories online, with many expressing sadness at the loss of one of the city's standout beer destinations.

It is not yet known what will happen to the premises.
