Another tough clash for the Imps

The circumstances surrounding Lincoln City’s match against Stevenage on Saturday are familiar – two teams not enjoying the best form and needing a win to spark a chance of play-off contention.

Imps’ fans will be hoping the outcome will be different from their team’s last outing on home turf the lost by a single late goal to Rotherham United, but face a team just two places below them – 12th and 14th respectively in the third tier.

The Boro will jump Lincoln in the League One with a victory at the LNER Stadium (kick-off 3pm), an outcome Imps’ head coach Michael Skubala will want to avoid.

He will be able to call upon Ethan Erhahon after the Scottish midfielder served a one-match band for his red card against Bolton Wanderers as the Imps’ work to end the current barren patch and build the confidence of a young side.

“We need to get through this as a team, as a club, we’ve got to get our heads down and work hard,” said Skubala after the Rotherham defeat.

“We have to support the players in these moments because things can become rushed and frantic. It’s my job to get them through it and we’ve got to keep working together.”

Skubala praised the contributions of George Wickens (pictured in action against Rotherham) who made several vital saves to keep the Imps in the contest until that late goal.

“George has been working hard on his shot-stopping from distance and he made three or four brilliant saves.

“He’s growing, and we have to keep moving and growing and trying to eradicate the mistakes.”
