Juliette’s Channel swim raises £2,000

Flight Lieutenant Juliette Lewis recently across the English Channel, raising £2,000 for Dementia UK after her mother’s diagnosis with Frontotemporal dementia.

The Training Development Manager at RAF Cranwell, and her swimming teammates Vikki Chester and Anne Radovic, swam an impressive time of 16 hours 20 minutes in challenging, choppy seas.

“We were two miles away from France and I thought that the hard part was over. That was when the pilot warned us that we had to swim even harder for the next three hours as the wind had picked up and the tide flow was against us due to the geography of the land.” said Juliette.

“We knew this was our make or break and we were so tired, but we dug deep and made it.”

She added that her mum’s diagnosis inspired the swim: “One in two of us will be affected by dementia in our lifetime. Families living with the condition are often left feeling exhausted, overwhelmed and alone. With your support, together we can provide vital specialist dementia nursing services, so more families can access our life-changing support and live as well as possible, for as long as possible.”

Group Captain Steve Harrison, Deputy Commandant RAF College congratulated Juliette on her achievement” "By conquering the waves of the English Channel, Flt Lt Lewis has shown us that determination knows no bounds. Her courage and selflessness inspire us all to dream bigger, push harder, and make a difference. Every stroke she took was a ripple of hope for those in need; an extraordinary achievement for an extraordinary cause."
