Paving the way at Millennium Green

Paving the way at Millennium Green

North Hykeham’s Millennium Green is to get a mile of upgraded walkways in the New Year thanks to North Kesteven District Council.

Currently unsurfaced, the footpath which circumnavigates the former gravel pit is popular with local walkers and nature enthusiasts, and the scheme will enable better year-round access for a wider range of visitors.

To complete the project Millennium Green will be closed to the public during the work, which is scheduled to last three weeks from January 6.

Council Leader and Executive Member for Development, Economy and Culture Councillor Richard Wright said: “We’ve listened to feedback from the people who visit and love Millennium Green, which is why we’re undertaking this project to surface the footpath around the lake. Once completed, it’ll be better for walkers, wheelchair users, cyclists and other visitors, opening up the site to more of our community.

“We know it will be disappointing for regular visitors that we’re having to close Millennium Green while the work takes place, but it means that it can all happen quickly and more cost-effectively, giving the Green back to the public in the shortest possible time.

“Once the path is finished we’ll be inviting the community to join us for a collective walk to celebrate the improved access.”

The new path will be created using crushed granite, a hard-wearing material that provides a consistent surface with minimal environmental impact.
