MP urges residents to save water this summer

Lincoln MP Hamish Falconer is calling on city residents to play their part in helping conserve water as the dry weather continues

“The Environment Agency has officially declared a Prolonged Dry Weather state in our region following the driest spring since 1929.

“River levels are exceptionally low, putting pressure on water supplies, the environment, and agriculture.

“Anglian Water has confirmed there are no current restrictions, but we all need to play our part to save water - now and for the future.

“Simple water-saving and environmental steps can make a big difference  - see tips below and check out Waterwise and https://waterwise.org.uk/how-to-save-water/ for more.

Let’s work together to protect this precious resource. #SaveWater #WaterWise.”

Steps residents can take include:

  • Checking taps regularly for signs of leaks
  • Use eco dishwasher settings and always run full loads
  • Report fish in distress or environmental issued to the Environment Agency 24/7 on 0800 80 70 60
  • Fit a slow-flow shower head and shorten showers – this could save up to 90 litres per shower
  • Water plants early or late in the day preferably using rainwater from a water butt. Avoid watering lawns as they will recover when it rains.
