Family fun at Dragonfly Day

Family fun at Dragonfly Day

Dragonflies can fly at up to 20mph and catch their prey in flight – these and many more fascinating facts about these amazing insects will be revealed at a special fun day in their honour.

Dragonfly Day organised by the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust will be held at Whisby Nature Park this Saturday between 1.30-3.30pm.

Whisby Nature Park is such a good place to spot these fantastic fliers and formidable hunters, along with their relatives, the smaller damselfly (pictured), that it has been designated a Dragonfly Hotspot by the British Dragonfly Society.

“Drop into the Education Centre to have a go at pond dipping and to learn more about dragonflies. Have a go at some art and craft activities to create your own dragonflies to take home,” said a LWT spokesman.

Pond dipping activities at £2 (for up to four children and two adults) are available in booked time slots from:

  • 1:30pm - 2pm
  • 2pm - 2:30pm
  • 2:30pm - 3pm
  • 3pm - 3:30pm

NB pond dipping not suitable for under 5s.
