Something for the Weekend : Local bands on Engine Shed stage
Local bands take to Engine Shed stage on Saturday as part of a one-day mini festival of music, sustainable fashion and community connection.
The Ultimate Guilt Free Party has been organised by Sam Harrison, a local promoter, musician and open mic host, as part of the Fashion Fixed Fest at the venue on May 31.
“This is the first time to my knowledge that the Engine Shed – a 1,800 capacity venue – has been able to lend its stage to the local music community, said Sam, who explained the event’s title.
“We want to explore, through our party, ways that a big event like a concert can be more sustainable and it will allow attendees to enjoy it ‘guilt-free’.
“By platforming local bands, we are helping artists, that despite their incredible quality, don’t have a music industry foothold yet. Even, better this uses 10% of the carbon bringing in established musicians would.
The event’s electricity usage will be offset by My Square Metre, which plants wildflowers to compensate for carbon production.
“We won’t be able to make this first concert carbon neutral, but we’ll get close and if it works, we might just be able to make the next one carbon negative.
Headliners at the event are Tinned Peaches, Divided by Design, DB Jones, Silverstate and the Nothingaires with support from Ewan Coulbeck, Gaz Clitheroe, Sunshine Poet, Bagel, Experimental Sonic Machines, Veronika Provozin and The Project Fashion Fixed Songwriters Workshop.
Daytime festivities include a collaborative playlist, an upcycled fashion show, a clothes swap, and a variety of stalls featuring local makers, resellers, fashion, charity stalls and books. Creative workshops throughout the day offer hands-on engagement with sustainable practices, such as a mending table and zine-making.
Tickets are £6 for both the daytime and nighttime events with Fashion Fixed running 10.30am to 3pm and the concert starting at 6pm.
