LGBTQIA+ community choir’s concert of songs from favourite musicals
OUTLoud Lincoln will present Into The Spotlight, a concert of musical theatre favourites, at The Blue Room this weekend.
It is the debut concert for the city's LGBTQIA+ community choir, which is pictured in rehearsals, and will take place on Saturday, June 21 at The Lawn venue.
“The evening will shine a light on queer joy, resilience, and creativity through a dazzling playlist of musical theatre hits featuring songs from Broadway classics to modern favourites, the performance showcases the power of community, expression, and finding your voice; literally and figuratively,” said Choir Director David Andrew Warman.
David formed OUTLoud Lincoln last September to create a ‘joyful and empowering space’ where LGBTQIA+ people and allies could come together to celebrate their identities through music.
“What started as a small gathering of voices has grown into a powerful and proudly visible musical force in the city, with a diverse membership and an unapologetically inclusive ethos,” explained David.
“The choir's mission is simple but powerful: to build community, raise voices, and stand in solidarity with others - all through the joy of singing. There are no auditions and no requirements beyond a willingness to sing and a commitment to equality.”
The Choir Director added that the response to OUTLoud Lincoln had been overwhelming: “Performances have drawn praise not only for their vocal quality, but for the warmth, visibility, and confidence the group brings to the stage.
“From community events to representation at protests, OUTLoud Lincoln continues to resonate with audiences of all ages and backgrounds.”
Into The Spotlight is supported including Iventis, Positive Health (Lincolnshire), and RW Stokes & Sons Ltd.
After Saturday’s concert the choir will be holding Newbie Nights to welcome new members on June 30, July 7, July 14 and July 21.
The next concert will be a World AIDS Day Pop Playlist on Saturday, November 29 at at Southside, Lincoln with a guest appearance by The Barberfellas, a London-based queer barbershop chorus.
