Birdcage Ukulele Orchestra at Lincoln Live

Local music fan JO RICHARDS continues her countdown of bands playing at Lincoln Live – the city’s two-day festival over the weekend of August 30-31.

Introducing…the Birdcage Ukulele Orchestra, who will be entertaining the crowds in St Paul’s in the Bail on Sunday, August 31.

Will Collishaw started the group three years ago: “It all started with a joke comment on Facebook, but people started ordering ukuleles. Then it dawned on me that I had no musical talent whatsoever.”

The original aim was to do just one summer gig. Will added: “Our first gig was in Morrison’s car park and as we know, all the best bands start there!”

There have been so many performances since then including Liquorice Park, Monks Road Bowling Club and the Lincolnshire Show. The band even took to the recording studio last Christmas and the song was featured on LCR FM and YouTube.

Will is keen to point out that this is very much an inclusive group: “All are welcome, regardless of ability or instrument. Nobody gets told off for playing the wrong note.”

Their songbook is varied and band members are encouraged to contribute ideas. Everyone agrees it’s about building confidence and having fun.

They’ve definitely earned their place on a proper stage at Lincoln Live 2025.
