St George’s Day Parade – picture special
The sun shone down on around 1,800 members of Lincoln Scouts who took part in the annual St George’s Day Parade on Sunday.
Many young people, aged between four and 25, headed for ice creams after the parade in uphill Lincoln, which has been a tradition since 1914.
Around 3,000 spectators watched the parade from Lincoln Castle into Bailgate led by two marching bands with the event culminating at Lincoln Cathedral for a service where young people could renew their Scout Promise in front of family, friends, and community leaders including Lord-Lieutenant of Lincolnshire, Toby Dennis.
“It’s an amazing day of unity that I’m proud to be a part of. I’ve been a scout since I was a Beaver and I’ve had 2 amazing years as part of Lincoln Scout Network. It’s a real honour to carry a flag as part of something big like this and it’s a special occasion I will always remember, ” said Thomas of the Network Scout.
“It’s been a beautiful day and it’s been great to see so many people all together. With the sun out like today we couldn’t ask for anything else” added Youth Leader Volunteer Taylor.
Comments from younger members included a six-year-old Beaver: "I wish i could do this every day, I can't wait for next year!"
