Community Counts – local resources to help local people
Welcome to the first Community Counts column on Hello Lincoln – a round-up of the news from the groups, projects and organisations that may just be able to provide the support or help you or your family need.
Much of the information in this first column has been supplied by Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Partnership, but we’re inviting all groups working in the wider community to get in touch with their news.

Moorland Community Project receives £6,500
The Spar Community Cashback scheme as awarded Moorland £6,500 (pictured above) to provide activities for local people.

It’s also the home of Moorland Makers, Moorland Youth Club and Banter and Brew – the latter is aimed at former members of the armed forces.
Upcoming events include a litter pick, which will start at the Community Centre on Wednesday, July 30, 1.30-3pm. To volunteers email

Fighting Fight cancer rehabilitation
Are you or a loved one living with cancer? Fighting Fit is a fitness program for people living with cancer and focuses on low-impact fitness designed to help you to maintain or increase physical activity levels at a pace that suits you and supports you in the fight against cancer and long-term health conditions.
This program will help you build your strength, motivation and physical ambitions. Sessions are £3 with the first 10 free.
Sessions are held at
- Canwick Village Hall, Tuesdays from 1.30pm to 3pm
- One NK, North Hykeham, Wednesdays from 11:45am to 1:00pm

New Skills Champion Grants
Local businesses and community groups are being urged to apply for Skills Champion grants, worth £1,000 each, to support essential skills development across the county.
The new Lincolnshire Skills Champions programme aims to promote and support learning in literacy, numeracy, and digital skills across the county.
Successful applicants will receive a £1,000 grant to help deliver innovative and accessible programmes to help people understand, encourage, promote and support literacy, numeracy and digital skills development.
Thea Croxall, Adult Skills and Learning Manager at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “We know that getting local organisations involved in skills development can have a real impact on helping people to engage with learning opportunities.
Champions will also be supported by the county council’s Adult Learning Team and invited to attend regular ‘LinknLearn’ networking sessions throughout the year to share ideas, resources, and best practice.
Organisations can apply for up to four champions across any combination of the three skill areas: literacy, numeracy or digital.
Applications are expected to close in August 2025.
