Cadet Cranwell starts training
Meet the newest recruit for Help for Heroes, Cadet Cranwell.
He has recently started training to become a specially trained assistance dog after a successful probation period with the charity, which will pair him with injured and disabled personnel from the armed forces and emergency services.
Over that last couple of years RAF Cranwell personnel have fundraised in support of Hounds for Heroes which has enabled Cadet Cranwell to start his training, which can take up to 24 months.
The dogs can help with everyday tasks and also reduce social isolation, increase confidence and provide companionship.
Hounds for Heroes can fully fund the whole working life of the assistance dogs so they are not a financial burden on their partner, but those able to assist with costs enables the charity to help more people.
Cranwell’s report from the first stage of his training read: “He’s already showing a calm, confident nature and is settling in beautifully. We’re so excited to watch him grow, learn, and take his first steps toward supporting a member of the armed forces or emergency services.”
