Something for the Weekend – 1,800 to parade through Lincoln this Sunday
Support the next generation of young people aiming to make the community a better place at the 111th St George’s Day Parade in Lincoln.
Our Something for the Weekend suggestion is to get out and support the 1,800 Lincoln Scouts, aged between four and 25, this Sunday (April 27) as they take to the streets of up-hill Lincoln for the parade – a tradition that’s been alive since 1914.
Starting from Lincoln Castle, the parade will make its way across the cobbled streets of Bailgate, led by two marching bands and colour party, with a crowd of over 3,000 spectators expected to cheer them on.
The parade will culminate in a service at Lincoln Cathedral, where young people will have the opportunity to renew their Scout Promise in front of family, friends, and community leaders.
The service will be held in the presence of the Lord-Lieutenant of Lincolnshire, representing His Majesty The King, to mark a celebration of community, commitment, and citizenship.
Lee Evans, Lincoln Scouts Lead Volunteer said: “It’s a day where our youngest Squirrels to our eldest Network members stand shoulder to shoulder – proudly part of something bigger than themselves. This isn’t just about tradition. It’s about young people leading the way, showing the world what it means to be kind, brave, and ready for anything.”
Scouts’ founder Baden Powell chose St George to be their Patron Saint because he felt the qualities of the legend were the same qualities that reflected a good scout.
“Whether you were a Scout once, are cheering on a young person who is, or just love seeing community in action – this Sunday’s parade is one not to miss. Join us as history, hope, and the next generation march forward – together.”
The parade starts at The Lawn complex on Union Road at 1.10pm.
