Watch out for additional postal charge scam

Watch out for additional postal charge scam

Beware of text or email messages about delivery charges of additional postage payments.

These alerts could be scams police have warned in the #LincolnshireAgainstFraud campaign.

“The message will state that there is an outstanding delivery charge, an additional postage payment or a missed delivery reschedule charge at a small fee. There will be a link to click on where you are directed to pay the fee, thereby giving the criminals your bank details,” explained a police spokesperson.

Be on you guard against these scams by:

  • keeping track of recent orders including receipts / confirmation emails for online purchases;
  • not clicking on the link within the message - go to the Retailers actual website and check on the status of a delivery;
  • remembering if a message is asking for money or personal or financial information in exchange for a package it is likely to be fraud;
  • assuming the link given is a scam.
