University to sponsor Lincoln Grand Prix
Pedal power will help promote the University of Lincoln across the globe as it has become asponsor of one of the UK's most prestigious cycling events, the Rapha Lincoln Grand Prix.
Famous for its punishing cobbled climb and vibrant atmosphere the 70th edition of the race will be held on Sunday, May 10, attracting elite male and female riders, worldwide media coverage and thousands of spectators to the city.
The new partnership underscores a shared ambition to position Lincoln as a premier destination for elite sport and as part of the deal the university becomes the Presenting Partner of the event and sponsor of the iconic Michaelgate Hill Climb, widely regarded as one of road cycling’s most challenging and celebrated features, which will now be branded as The University of No Regrets Climb.
The university will also provide official free spectator parking at its Brayford Pool campus during race weekend, improving accessibility for the thousands of cycling fans who visit the city for the race.
A key part of the three-year agreement is the creation of structured, hands-on opportunities for University of Lincoln students to gain real-world experience at an elite national sporting event.
Opportunities will span multiple disciplines, including:
- Health and Medicine
- Physiotherapy and Sports Science
- Business and Management
- Event Management
- Media and Journalism
- Creative Design and Content Production
Ed Hughes, Chief Marketing Officer at the University of Lincoln, said: “The Rapha Lincoln Grand Prix is one of the city’s standout events, and we’re proud to be backing it as Presenting Partner.
“It’s exactly the kind of platform that puts Lincoln on the map in the right way - high energy, high profile, and with real cultural and economic impact. As a major civic institution, we’ve got a role to play in helping those moments grow and sustain over time.
“The University of No Regrets Climb is a great example of that in action. It taps straight into what we’re about; encouraging people to step up, push themselves and make the most of the opportunities in front of them. For our students, this isn’t theoretical, they’ll be right in the middle of it, getting hands-on experience across delivery, content, brand and operations. That’s where the real value is, building confidence, capability and genuinely work-ready graduates.”
Gary Coltman, Organiser of the Rapha Lincoln Grand Prix, said: “We are delighted to announce the University of Lincoln as the Presenting Partner of the longest-running premier cycling road race in the UK. 2026 marks the 70th edition of the iconic event and once again the event forms part of the Lloyds British Cycling National Road Series.
“With only one year missed since 1956, the race has clearly stood the test of time and continues to grow, something the new partnership will only strengthen over the next three years. The University’s ideas for supporting and enhancing the event, including student involvement and the branding of Michaelgate as the University of No Regrets Climb is incredibly exciting.”
