Traffic disruption as crossing repaired
Emergency repair work is being carried out to a pedestrian crossing on Lincoln’s Tritton Road after it was hit by a vehicle.
The work will also include an upgrade to the crossing after the pole was badly damaged in the accident at the catchwater drain bridge crossing.
The impact left the equipment unsafe so a Lincolnshire County Council highways crew is making it safe for pedestrians as Anthony Gent, Principle Engineer Traffic Signals explained: “The damaged pole was fixed into an older polebox fitting, which will take a few days to replace.
“As part of the repair, a new steel socket is being installed with the benefit being that this is the current standard used across the county and will make any future repairs quicker and less disruptive. Essentially, the crossing is getting an upgrade and will be more economical and more reliable.
“These works had originally been planned for later in the year but because the equipment was already prepared for that job, and the collision created an immediate safety issue, the decision was taken to bring the work forward. This avoids returning to the site again and means disruption for the area now will only happen once.”
The work is expected to be finished this Friday, May 22, with the permanent crossing fully operational by May 29 and temporary signals are in place.
There will be some traffic delays, but there are no access issues for nearby homes or businesses.
