Police officer banned from driving

The officer who hit a pedestrian on a pedestrian crossing while behind the wheel of a police car has been banned for a year.

PC Aodan O'Neill, who is based at Lincoln, was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court yesterday (March19) having previously pleaded guilty to an offence of dangerous driving

The 27-year-old was ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work and banned from driving for 12 months.

The court heard that PC O'Neill drove a marked police car along Broadgate, Lincoln, just before 1.45pm, on 4 November 2024, when it hit a man who was using a pedestrian crossing. He was not seriously injured.

PC O'Neill was travelling to an emergency incident with emergency blue lights and sirens activated. He has been covering non-operational duties and as a result of his sentence Lincolnshire Police will now consider internal misconduct procedures.
