Lincoln City 5, Peterborough United 2
Imps’ head coach Michael Skubala praised his side’s points haul over the festive period with five matches played since December 20.
City stretched their unbeaten run in the league to eight games with victory in a thrilling clash with Peterborough United.
The Imps had to show real determination against the in-form visitors, who took the lead through Harry Leonard, but a Reeco Hackett leveller before two quick goals from Tendayi Darikwa (above) and Freddie Draper ensured a 3-1 lead at the interval.
Although Kyrell Lisbie pulled one back, Adam Reach restored the two-goal advantage before Darikwa added gloss to the victory in time added on.
Skubala (below) had named an unchanged side from the 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town on New Year’s Day, the only change to the matchday squad was the addition of Lewis Montsma to the City bench as a replacement for Dexter Lembikisa whose loan spell from Wolves had ended.
“I’m really pleased with the result and the performance. I think Peterborough started brighter than we did but when we tweaked a couple of things we got on top of them and looked more like ourselves.
“Once we got going we were the better team and scored some great goals. We’ve had some really tough games in such a short period of time. To get through these games with the results we’ve had is excellent. They are a really good team and we’re so pleased with the result. It is just another three points though and we have to keep our foot on the gas.”
The Imps are not in action next Saturday due to Exeter City’s involvement in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup and the head coach believes the break in action has come at a good time for the team.
He added: “I think sometimes people say a rest is not a good thing because it stops the flow a little bit, but for us I think it is really beneficial.
“The lads have got a few days off. I think it is important both physically and mentally. There are so many games over Christmas and it’ll be good for the lads to spend some time with their families.
“We’ll be back in by the end of next week and we’ll be fully focused on another tough test against Luton Town.”
