Full access and parking on Bail from Good Friday

Bailgate will be fully open to traffic and with all parking bays available in time for the Easter break.

An overview of progress on the Bailgate improvement project has been issued by Lincolnshire County Council.

The £1.7m scheme started on January 19 and has involved the removal and relaying of almost 50,000 stone blocks along Bailgate with around 32,000 being reused in the work

Achieved in March

  • Completed laying of all old and new setts with new mortar base and joints in Phases 2 & 4A
  • Completed new road markings in Phase 2
  • Switched traffic management to Phase 4A
  • Completed installation of new National Grid ducting and cables
  • Constructed new access for events in St Paul in the Bail
  • New sealant installed in movement joints across site.

What’s happening in April

  • Complete laying of new setts with new mortar base and joints in Phase 4B, between Newport Arch and Newport
  • Complete the reconstruction of the crossing table outside Westgate Academy in Phase 5
  • Finish installing all sealant to movement joints

Upcoming traffic restrictions and closures

  • From Monday 13 April, Westgate will be closed outside Westgate Academy
  • From Monday 20 April, Newport will be closed between Newport Arch and Newport for two weeks

  • Phase 1 – between Westgate and The White Hart Hotel
  • Phases 2 – between Newport Arch and Westgate
  • Phase 4A – Westgate between Greggs and The Castle Hotel
  • Phase 4B – between Newport and Newport Arch
  • Phase 5 – the raised crossing outside Westgate Academy
