Ed Miliband visits city to mark hospital’s £1.2m solar windfall

The government’s energy supremo, Ed Miliband, has been in the city to celebrate the installation of £1.2m worth of solar panels at Lincoln County Hospital.

The Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero (right)) was on the campaign trail for Labour in the City of Lincoln Council elections.

Teaming up with Lincoln MP Hamish Falconer the Minister said Great British Energy, the public power company, was determined to put money into frontline services. This would be achieved by taking cash off the big energy companies through renewable energy.

“It’s all part of our plan to ensure we have clean power in our country so we have energy, lower bills for people and public services and we can ensure that we tackle climate crisis.”

The announcement of funding for the hospital panels was originally made in February and was part of a £74million package of green energy upgrades to cut costs in public buildings across the UK. RAF Waddington was one of three air bases to also receive cash for upgrades to make them cheaper to run.

Miliband has made local headlines through approving large scale solar energy farms in Lincolnshire and criticised for allowing these on prime agricultural land.
