Council Tax Support continues in North Kesteven

Council Tax Support continues in North Kesteven

Help for people on low incomes to pay their council tax in North Kesteven will be maintained at the current levels for the 2026-7 financial year.

District Council chiefs believe the current arrangements for helping the most vulnerable households are working well and members of the Executive Board voted to continue the Council Tax Support scheme from April 1.

The Board also approved the continuation of an Exceptional Hardship Fund of £25,000 in the area, which covers villages and towns south of Lincoln, including North Hykeham.

At the end of 2025 a total of 5,341 residents in North Kesteven were offered Council Tax Support. This was split almost equally between pension-age claimants, whose level of protection and support is set out in law; and working-age claimants, including those considered ‘vulnerable’, for whom the council has discretion over levels of support through the local scheme.

A spokesman said offering people support enabled them to pay their bill rather than default or fall into arrears, which in turn helped the council achieve the highest rate of collection in Lincolnshire.
