City proud of Imps’ achievement

Messages of congratulations have poured into Lincoln City and flooded social media after the club was promoted to the Skybet Championship on Easter Monday.

Lincoln MP Hamish Falconer was among those to salute the team’s success: “Huge congratulations to Lincoln City on its promotion to the Championship!  A brilliant achievement for the players, staff and fans. The whole city is proud.

City of Lincoln Council added: “Congratulations to Lincoln City Football Club on your promotion to the EFL Championship. This incredible achievement has made the entire city proud!”

Lincolnshire Police will have the task of overseeing next season’s matches at the LNER Stadium when the Imps take on teams such as Queens Park Rangers, Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield United.

The force reminded fans to take care if out celebrating the historic occasion: “Sixty-five years in the making. What an achievement for Lincoln City as it secure its place in the Championship! 

“Huge congratulations to everyone at Lincoln City – a fantastic season and fully deserved. 

“If you’re heading out to mark the occasion, enjoy it safely. Stick with your mates and look out for each other. Know your limits and make sure you’ve got a plan to get home safely.

Messages were posted by Imps’ fans across the world as well as supporters of clubs in the Championship welcoming City into English football’s second tier.
