Carholme Road improvements complete

Carholme Road improvements complete

Major improvements to Carholme Road in Lincoln are now complete after over four months of work by Lincolnshire County Council.

“I’m now happy to say, the works have come to a successful end,” said Cllr Michael Cheyne, Executive Member for Highways after the carriageway between Nelson Street and the golf club was rebuilt.

“Since starting this summer, the team spent over 26,000 hours carrying out these improvements, which also included improving the area’s highways drainage and resurfacing the Carholme Road and westbound A46 approaches to Carholme Roundabout.

“Now that this important road scheme is complete, I want to thank everyone affected for their patience and for treating our contractor with respect throughout.”

Project stats

•    Over 4,300 tonnes of road-building material used
•    290 metres of new highways drainage installed
•    41 new drainage gulleys installed
•    250 metres of failing kerbs and drainage channels replaced
•    Refurbished three uncontrolled crossing points and the Gresham Street and Staunton Street footway crossings

Cllr Neil Murray, county councillor for Carholme, said: “The county council’s highways team has outdone themselves, as the newly surfaced section of Carholme Road looks great. Now that the scheme has ended, I think it’s safe to say that people will most definitely notice drastically improved journeys with freshly laid tarmac where the old carriageway was falling apart.”
