Burton Albion 0, Lincoln City 1
Birthday boy Sonny Bradley was pleased to make the winning contribution when his first half goal gave the Imps all three points at Burton Albion on Saturday.
The defender rose highest to head home from Tom Bayliss’ set-piece delivery and it was enough to ensure victory at the Pirelli Stadium for the second time in under a month.
Bradley said: “It is a fantastic way to celebrate; I’ve had a brace in the past and I think I should have had another here.
“I’m greedy when it comes to goals and clean sheets, I should have had two, but it’s just the one. The most important thing is getting the three points and we did that.
“The Gaffer announced it was my birthday in the pre-match meeting. I’m not sure a lot of the lads knew, because when you get to 34 you try and keep it on the downlow.
“Strikers will tell you the same, but once you get a goal, it makes you more confident.
“I was saying to the lads before the game that I was confident I’d score and I was able to do that.
“Every time I go in the box, with the service we get from the lads in wide positions, I fancy myself to get a goal.”
Bradley has quickly established himself as a key player for the Imps and says he’s feeling right at home in Lincoln City colours, he added: “I knew before I came in, after speaking to Chris Cohen and James Collins that it is a great group of lads here.
“I’ve found it really easy to fit in. We’ve set our goals this season and it’s important we advance and finish as high as we can.
“We’ve made a fantastic start, but we need to carry that on now. I’ve had this kind of feeling before at clubs.
“At Plymouth and Luton I had a similar feeling. When you know that everyone is together and pushing in the right direction, it makes it a positive place to be.”
Head coach Michael Skubala was pleased with Saturday’s performance: “It was scrappy in the first half and we couldn’t really get into our flow, but we got the goal and made some big blocks, which is great.
“In the second half we opened them up a couple of times and should have had a second and a third.
“In this league you have to be good in both boxes. We work really hard on set-pieces at both ends and I think that shows.
“We expect to score from them, because we work hard on them. There were a number of pleasing things from today.”
