Badger rescued from unlawful snare
People who set illegal snares that trap protected species face prosecution police have warned.
The warning comes after DC Aaron Flint, Lincolnshire Police’s Wildlife Crime Officer was called to a badger caught in a snare in the south of the county.
Badgers are a protected species under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, which strictly controls the use of snares.
DC Flint found the injured animal caught in an illegally set snare along with another snare nearby and an illegally set Fenn trap.
He explained: “Illegal use of snares is completely unacceptable and can cause prolonged suffering to animals. Badgers are a protected species under UK law, and offences involving them are treated very seriously. We will investigate all reports thoroughly and take action where evidence allows.”

“The badger was a young sow and was immediately transported to Wild Things Rescue. We would like to thank them for their help and support. The badger has received veterinary treatment and is being well cared for,” added DC Flint.
