Ketamine campaigner Tracy Marelli has been honoured with a police award for her work to combat the drug since it took the life of her daughter Sophie.
A Lincoln Police Community Support Officer (PSCO) Tracy (pictured) was presented with the Values in Action award at the Lincolnshire Police Force Awards for her tireless work.
“Tracy faced the most difficult situation a parent could imagine when last year she lost her daughter, Sophie, who was just 20 years old,” said a spokesperson.
“Tracy displayed incredible courage in using her tragic circumstances to be a driver for change, raising awareness locally and nationally of the horrific realities of ketamine addiction.
“Tracy, has been active in the community, spreading the message and educating other young people on the dangers of substance misuse in a determined and inspiring effort to prevent anyone else coming to harm.
“Tracy has suffered a great loss but continues to use her experience in a positive way. Her work has included assisting with a Crimestoppers campaign; engaging with Sophie’s friends, worried parents and local communities; and appearing as a guest on GMTV. Tracy has also worked tirelessly to seek change in legislation to regrade ketamine to a Class A drug.
“Tracy is truly inspirational, and her work is potentially lifesaving. Courage, respect and empathy, and public service; these are the values of our organisation, and Tracy simply sums them up in who she is and the work she has done in the fight against the growing issue of ketamine.”
