Over 70 teams enter memorial rally

A rally in memory of one of the sports’ most ardent devotees will be held next Sunday, September 7 at Blyton Park.

Colin Ellmore was literally a driving force behind the local rallying scene competing through the 1950s, 60s and 70s and was proactive member of the Lincoln Motor Cycle & Car Club serving a board member, chairman and president.

The 2nd Colin Ellmore Memorial Rally at the course north of Gainsborough will be a round of the EMAMC, ANEMMC, ANCC and AEMC championships with over 70 teams having already entered from across the country.

These include Colin’s son, Dan Ellmore, in his MG Metro 6R4, which recently took part in a historic line-up of the cars at the Goodwood Festival of Speed to celebrate the 40th anniversary since the Group B vehicle made its international rally debut in 1985.

Colin is pictured top in the passenger seat of 6R4 after he swapped rallying for golf but still enjoyed a few laps with Dan in the driving seat. In his own time behind the wheel Colin was successful in numerous club events mostly in his beloved MK1 Mini Cooper 998 pictured below and had also rallied a Jowitt Javelin and DKW among others.

Colin also played his part on the track on race days acting as a marshal, steward and Clerk of the Course over the years.
