St John’s Hospital revisited

With family homes now taking up much of the former site it’s easy to forget that Bracebridge Heath was home to St John’s Hospital, which at one point housed 750 asylum patients on its 120 acres.

This video above by Beyond the Point was taken back in 2023 after much of the site had been redeveloped but does capture the parts of the site that retain evidence of its history as a mental health facility that operated between 1852 right up until 1989.
