Women’s Health Day event in Lincoln

Women’s Health Day event in Lincoln

A Women's Health Day will be held in Lincoln on Saturday, April 18, in a bid to improve services.

The event has been organised by a local women’s health group that is campaigning for services to be better co-ordinated.

“Good health is important for everyone - men and women.  However, women face particular challenges,” said the group’s Carol Morgan

“For example, women spend a significantly greater proportion of their lives in ill-health and disability. More focus and research need to be directed to women-specific issues. The male anatomy remains the default model for medical students.  Women are underrepresented in clinical trials.”

The Women’s Health Day will be held between 11am and 3 pm, at Grafton House on Newland and a key aim is to bring together community services that help improve women’s physical and mental health.

The group was formed in 2025 and is based on the community model of Women's Health Hubs that already exists in other parts of the country.

“It has been found to be very successful in facilitating services and treatments for women at an early stage, thereby reducing the number who go on to require urgent hospital care.  Women's Health Hubs form part of a wider health objective to move from treatment to prevention, from hospital to the community.”

Carol added: “Over the past few months the women’s health group has been making a study of the health services in Lincolnshire that are used by women and girls.

“A number of creative and innovative approaches to women’s health been identified.  However, these have tended to be patchy with different service providers and funding streams.

“The central purpose of the Women's Health Day is to increase awareness of these services by bringing them together in one setting.  This event is free of charge and open to both men and women.

“While the focus is on women's health services generally, with a particular focus on the menopause, many of the services represented can help men to be healthy too.”

Attending organisations will offer information on issues such as health screening and cancer prevention; the impact of diet upon both physical and mental health; strength building and female empowerment; better sleep and targeted programmes to achieve a healthy lifestyle.
