Tree-give away event
One hundred trees and hedges will be given away next week to help boost numbers in Lincolnshire.
The giveaway at Boothby on Tuesday, November 25 and Bardney Dairies on Thursday, November 27 has been organised by Lincolnshire County Council and the Woodland Trust.
Lincolnshire has one of the lowest tree cover rates in the UK at just under 4%, compared to a national average of 13%. The county council has a goal of planting 750,000 trees through its project LincWoods, which has been developed in partnership with the Trust, The Tree Council, Lincolnshire Co-op and the Forestry Commission.
The giveaway involves total of 100 complete planting packs comprising plant protection materials, trees and hedging plants, which will be ready to hand over to help boost tree and hedge numbers in Lincolnshire.
To get a pack people need to register via Eventbrite prior to the event and then, when notified they been successful in the application, collect the tree and hedgerow packs from the centre on the allotted day.
Each free tree pack contained 50 trees, stakes and tree guards and were mix of small-leaved lime, hornbeam, English oak, field maple, wild cherry and hazel.
The free hedge packs included 250 hedging plants, a native mix of hawthorn, hazel, dogwood, dog rose and blackthorn along with canes and spiral guards. Enough to create up to 50m of double-row hedgerow.
The project is aimed at landowners, farmers, businesses, parish councils and communities in Lincolnshire to support the planting of new woodlands, hedgerows, orchards and individual trees.
Free help and advice are available on everything from which species to go for, protection, management, funding and grant options available on a site-specific basis.
