Food for thought at Lincoln Central Library
Climate Hope Lincoln will be giving library users food for thought this week through its #ChooseLocal campaign.
The group is taking part in Green Libraries Week, which starts today, October 27 and runs until Saturday with a display at Lincoln Central Library outlining the campaign and the important part local people have to play as well as introducing a new resource that can be picked up to encourage community participation.
Members will also be at the library today between 10.30am – 11.30am and on Thursday, 9.30am – 12.30pm to talk about how the campaign aims to encourage people to think about where their food comes from, food waste and how to avoid it.
Helen Fisher of Climate Hope explained: “The resource is part of our #ChooseLocal Food campaign and has essentially come out of a desire to encourage people to recognise the value of their own knowledge and stories, and spark conversations for sharing that wisdom, whilst inspiring some extra curiosity around food origins and waste.
“The resource is A3 in size and folds up to reveal prompts with a range of focuses, encouraging an exploration of a meal - from where it came from, to what happens to the waste and how food connects to people and places locally.”
The campaign aims to get people share their thoughts on:
- What delicious recipes can help us to eat with the seasons?
- How are local connections supporting fairer access to food?
- How do our food choices impact the planet?
Helen added: “There are so many questions that we can explore with this! And all of it, from the tiny tips to understanding our role within big global challenges, starts with a conversation.”
Green Libraries Week is a national celebration connecting climate and sustainability initiatives with communities.
Lincoln Central Library’s other activities include an all week coat swap, seed swap, and free craft kits! The display also includes Climate Hope Lincoln bookshelf and reading list.
