All food caddies delivered in North Kesteven
Food waste recycling caddies have now been delivered to over 58,000 households in North Kesteven.
District council teams have delivered a set of new food waste caddies to every home, in readiness for collections starting from March 30.
Each home has been issued with a 5L indoor caddy, a 23L outdoor caddy, information about the service and a free roll of liners to get people started. Communal properties such as flats have a shared outdoor bin instead of individual outdoor caddies.
The food waste recycling service offers a weekly collection helping residents to reduce their black bin waste and moving more of the district’s waste into the recycling system.
Member for Environment and Waste Cllr Mark Smith said: “I’m pleased to say that we’ve completed the deliveries ahead of schedule, and well in time for the launch of the collections service from 30 March. We’re very proud of our teams and the professional way they’ve completed this huge task.
“We advise residents to wait until a week before their first collection day to start using their indoor caddy to gather food waste. Then simply put the outdoor caddy out on their usual bin day, alongside their usual bin each week.
“We appreciate that this service is going to be an adjustment, but many people around the UK who already use food waste recycling really value the service and the opportunity to slim down their waste.
“You might also find you end up saving money on food, as a separate food caddy draws your attention to how much and which types of food you’re regularly throwing away – this can help tackle the 25% of edible and inedible food in black bins across the district, that could be recycled instead.”
