Visit Usher to see works by pop art pioneer
A Hayward Gallery Touring exhibition of screen-prints by Eduardo Paolozzi has opened at Lincoln’s Usher Gallery.
Sir Eduardo was one of the pioneers of the pop art movement in the UK and transformed mundane and mass-produced images from advertising, comic books, science fiction and American popular culture into bright and bold collages.
Visitors to the Usher can see a celebrated collection of his screen-prints and photolithographs produced between 1965 and 1970 - called General Dynamic F.U.N – on display at the gallery until Sunday, June 7.
The prints by the Scottish artist and sculptor explore how technology, fame and mass media were shaping everyday life in the 1960s.
Cllr Natalie Oliver, executive councillor for culture at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “The Usher Gallery has enabled people to enjoy the country’s finest art for almost a century, and hosting this wonderful exhibition of Eduardo Paolozzi’s work is the latest in a long line of highlights.
“Our visitors told us they wanted to see more major touring exhibitions alongside local artwork. So that’s exactly what we’re doing. We are thrilled to bring Paolozzi’s pioneering work to the people of Lincolnshire, and I’d like to thank Hayward Gallery Touring and the Southbank Centre for making this possible.”
