Students’ talents shine in Jazz Cabaret
Words and pictures by Katie Seller, Hello Lincoln Intern
The Wild Party Company treated Lincoln a one-night-only Jazz Cabaret.
Put together in just 10 weeks by the third year Musical Theatre students from the University of Lincoln the cabaret showcased their talents and created a unique one-off event.
Wild Party. was formed by Elle Tipler, Joshua Holt, Eliza Widdowson, Cam Hunt who were determined to provide more opportunities for upcoming talent in the area. In the Orangery at the Charlotte House, the night began with a live pianist setting the mood for the evening.
The singers of the night - SJ Lee, Kristi- Liis Orupold, Lydia North, Romilly Chortlon- Jones, Tracy Azevedo - all gave stunning performances. Their stage presence lit up the room with their own personal touch. Each singer expressed the deep emotions and creative freedom of jazz.
It was heartwarming to hear the personal connections these songs had with the singers knowing that it meant something to them. Even technical difficulties were handled with ease and humour.
The venue was full with support from friends and musical theatre lovers who all joined in a jazz quiz – comic questions such as who is a famous jazz icon Neil Armstrong or Louis Armstrong ensured a relaxed atmosphere with everyone sharing their knowledge and making new connections.
The Wild Party Co created a stylish and sophisticated one-off jazz event in a short time. The idea to create a jazz-style space to provide opportunities for students was something Lincoln was missing.
Well done to everyone involved in planning and delivering this stylish and sophisticated jazz cabaret.
