Wonderful retelling of the classic Christmas story - review
Hello Lincoln interns Lily Bowen and Katie Seller were determined to see Lambstail Youth Theatre’s production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol – they were very glad they did.
Lambstail Youth Theatre’s (LYT) last show on Tuesday, at Lincoln’s Southside ended with festive cheer and lots of smiling faces. Cast, crew and everyone else involved should be incredibly proud of themselves.
First published in 1843 the it’s the famous story of Ebenezer Scrooge, an old miserable man who hates Christmas. He is visited by his dead business partner, Jacob Marley, and the spirits of Christmas past, present and future and transformed into a kinder, gentler and festive man.
Unlike Ebenezer Scrooge at the beginning of the play, the cast were filled with energy and excitement - confident and cheerful cohort of aspiring new actors and performers. The ability of the cast had to play multiple roles was clear and they were all exceptional.
It is understandable that nerves can happen just before stepping onto the stage, but the performers dealt with these professionally and delivered their third and final show with passion.
This production reminded Lincoln what Christmas is all about, touching on values of friendship, love, care for those around us and our community. Lambstail should be very proud of their three nights’ performances.
LYT was founded in 2023 to give young people between ages of 11-18 the opportunity to stage ambitious and exciting theatre.
Stage experience is not necessary as the company looks for members who aim to work hard in a mutually supportive and creative environment whether as actors, designers or both.
It is lovely to see youth theatres like this in Lincoln, but especially Lambstail since it is so new and already bringing heartwarming productions to family, friends and the public at Southside.
It also heartening to see the community celebrating arts in this form for younger children and bringing aspiring young actors into the area/community. To find out more about LYT see its facebook page, or you can get in touch via
LYT delivered a performance that left us honouring Christmas in our heart just in time for the festive season.
