Relive the 80s with Paul Young
By Jo Richardson
Iconic 80s singer Paul Young will be appearing at the New Theatre Royal, Lincoln next Thursday.
This will be an intimate show, reflecting on his extensive singing career, combining conversation with acoustic performances of his biggest hits.
Paul shot to fame as a solo artist in the summer of 1983 with his cover of the Marvin Gaye song, Wherever I Lay My Hat (That’s My Home). His smooth, soulful take on this beautiful, melancholy song took him to No.1 in the charts for three weeks.
He went on to have four further Top 10 hits and his debut album, No Parlez was the first of three UK No.1 albums.
Paul’s talent and warm personality were key parts of the spirit of the 80s. In 1984, he replaced David Bowie to sing the unforgettable opening line for Band Aid’s Do They Know It’s Christmas? The following summer, he partnered with Alison Moyet to sing another Marvin Gaye number, That’s the Way Love Is, when he was invited to play at Wembley for the Live Aid concert.
For anyone who dreams of re-living this fabulous decade, this show might just take you back there.
