Lincoln’s live music scene with Jo Richards

The Rainbow Rhythms Open Mic at The Joiners Arms was the unexpected delight of last weekend.

It was relaxed and well run with some high-quality musicians in the lineup, which included a rousing rendition of The Gambler on the ukulele, followed by some beautiful Bluegrass songs on the mandolin and guitar.

This weekend The Activators will be at The Drill, supported by The Faith Estate and the Back to Mono DJ team. Expect a high-energy performance from the headliners, who cleverly blend together ska, punk and reggae with a powerful brass section.

The Birdcage will host a spectacular double-header on Saturday night, featuring personal favourites Gannets (pictured) and Tinned Peaches. Psychedelic rockers Gannets will be led by their charismatic frontman and guitarist James Turnbull. Both bands have a strong local following and the pub will be packed to the rafters. Free gigs don’t come better than this.
