Lincoln’s live music scene with Jo Richards
Lincoln’s live music scene did not disappoint last weekend. The big event was the Folk Festival at the Jolly Brewer on Saturday.
This free event was hosted and headlined by the musicians from Salt of the Earth. Outstanding performances from the beer garden stage included the stunning harmonica sounds of Austin T and the beautiful Americana harmonies of The Rye Sisters (pictured). Let’s hope this event becomes an annual fixture.
The Komodo showcased more ambitious young artists, including Archie Laws singing an authentic cover of Bowie’s, ‘The Man Who Sold the World,’ which took the audience right back to the days of Kurt Cobain on MTV Unplugged.
Southside paired an alternative music documentary with two bands, including Soaper from Sleaford. Their intense, energetic drummer Krim brought the church hall to life with distinctive, ‘noisy grunge.’
So what’s on offer for this weekend? If you like a quality cover band, The Drill presents, ‘Letz Zep,’ who Led Zepplin’s Robert Plant allegedly described as, “just like watching myself on stage.” Local, original music is covered by both The Birdcage and Southside on Saturday night.
