The Scholar Scoop – city’s café culture

Welcome to The Scholar Scoop! This series has been created by Hello Lincoln interns Lily and Katie to highlight the independent cafes in the city. 

The University of Lincoln students decided to start these features as they felt that Lincoln has many cafes that people may not have explored yet. 

“We want to shed light on these places and find out what makes each one unique. So, if you are walking around Lincoln and thinking ‘where can I get a coffee from?’ why not try one of these places and discover where you can grab your new favourite drink.”

In the second feature Lily settles into Rising Café.

Step through the door of Lincoln New Life Christian Fellowship and a treat for the senses opens up in the form of Rising Cafe. 

It has become a favourite among students looking for a welcoming study spot that serves quality food, great coffee, drinks and provides a lovely place to study. 

More than just a café, it is a not-for-profit- business that supports Betel, a Christian charity, dedicated to transforming the lives of people recovering from drug and alcohol addiction. With no government funding, every penny spent here directly supports those rebuilding their lives.

Not only does this Rising Café’s food and drink appeal to the younger generation, but its atmosphere captures everything students crave from a homey local spot. 

When I visited the space was dressed in its full rustic and autumnal charm. It’s no wonder that this café has grown in popularity and become one of the most photographed spots in town for students. 

Whether you’re stopping by between lectures or settling for a long study session, this café’s seasonal aesthetic and welcoming vibe makes it a student all year.

Third-year University of Lincoln student Katie Baddon described the atmosphere as ‘so cosy’ and finds the café’s ethos ‘inspiring’.

Fellow student Emily Godley agreed that Rising Café is a wonderful study space” that she ‘couldn’t recommend enough’.

I am excited to see how the café’s atmosphere transforms for the winter, Christmas and the upcoming spring
