The Scholar Scoop – city’s café culture
Welcome to The Scholar Scoop! This series has been created by Hello Lincoln interns Lily and Katie to highlight the independent cafes in the city.
The University of Lincoln students decided to start these features as they felt that Lincoln has many cafes that people may not have explored yet.
“We want to shed light on these places and find out what makes each one unique. So, if you are walking around Lincoln and thinking ‘where can I get a coffee from?’ why not try one of these places and discover where you can grab your new favourite drink.”
In the third feature Katie visits Coffee Aroma
Just by the side of the Stonebow you can find Coffee Aroma a quaint space with lots of pride. What caught my eye was the number of photos on the walls of happy, joyful customers creating an inviting atmosphere.
At a first glance the space looks small, though once you step in, the place opens like a Tardis filled with history, expertise and friendliness. With two floors of comfy seating, the cafe can hold more people than you think. The décor gives it an authentic feel of a coffee house that has been established since 2005. You can even find a bookshelf and pick up a book while you enjoy your coffee. You cannot find this type of antique feature in newer coffee houses.
If you are not a fan of reading while enjoying a drink, you also have the option to pick up a board game. This is a great way to entertain the little ones while you have a catch up, or even students who want a few hours to relax and do something different. What is also special is they host different events in their space too. From fabric wreath making, tarot card reading and acoustic nights, they do it all. I can’t wait to see what the next event will be.
As their website states, “Coffee Aroma offers barista-championship standard coffee in Lincoln. Hosting the widest selection of single origin coffee, we offer only the highest quality products, and our award-winning experience is demonstrated through the staff that we train.”
I also discovered on their social media, where they get their coffee beans from: “Our beans are supplied by Ozone coffee roasters. Ozone are a specialty coffee roasted who work directly with the farmers supplying the coffee and always make sure your beans are to the highest grade.”
It’s great to hear companies who work directly with farmers and their mission to pave the way for mor sustainable and ethical coffee production.
Coffee Aroma has a brilliant selection of drinks with some Christmas favourites such as mulled wine and boozy hot chocolate coming back this winter. As Christmas is fast approaching this is a great place to stop by off the High Street in between grabbing presents.
